An attempt at explaining how attitudes are related to behaviors.

Behaviors have four aspects: action, target, context, and time.

Example: Get (action) a mammogram (target) at the breast screening center (context) within 12 months (time).

Attitudes are influenced by the strength of behavioral beliefs and the evaluations of potential outcomes. Attitudes can be positive, neutral, or negative. We tend to associate behaviors with “features” or “truths,” regardless of truthfulness.

Behavioral beliefs and subjective norms
A harsh example of behavioral belief is if you see a homeless person on the street, you might believe that they got there because they’re irresponsible. That behavioral belief becomes “This person is in a bad situation because they’re lazy.” You can see how easily our beliefs are shaped by just what we see, even though there are so many factors at play for each situation.
